Ed Doernberger

To the Connecticut Swimming community,
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Doernberger, longtime Board of Directors Member, Official, and club volunteer.

When his children began swimming in the early 1990s with the Woodbridge Aquatic Club, Ed became involved in the sport too by training to become a USA Swimming Official. He went on to officiate for nearly 25 years serving as the Meet Referee for Age Group and Senior Championships and for numerous club meets. He mentored new officials on the pool deck and in the classroom leading Officials Clinics for Connecticut Swimming.

An attorney by profession, Ed was appointed to the Connecticut Swimming Board of Directors to serve as Counsel-at-Large, a position he faithfully held for 21 years, rarely if ever missing a meeting, and always putting the athletes first. He volunteered 25 years for Woodbridge Aquatic Club as a Board Member, Treasurer, and Referee. His last meet was on the deck for WAC's Invitational held February 2020 before the pandemic stopped all CSI meets.

In 2005, Connecticut Swimming Board of Directors honored Ed with the USA Swimming Outstanding Service Award sponsored by ConocoPhillips.
