Eastern Zone Diversity Select Camp
June 16-19, 2011
LaSalle University - Philadelphia, PA

April 26, 2011

Connecticut Swimming will fund two athletes, along with a Coach and the Diversity Chair to attend the Eastern Zone Diversity Select camp. Funding will include transportation, housing, and meals. Athletes will room with another athlete of the same gender. Click here to read more about the camp.

Athlete Requirements: 

  1. Must represent an ethnically under-represented population of the current USA swimming membership (20%) which includes:
    African Americans, Native Americans,Hispanics, Asians or Pacific Islanders 

  2. Must be 13-16 years of age at the time of the camp. 

  3. Swum in at least 2 CSI sanctioned meets during the LC 2010 and/or SC 2010-2011 season. 

  4. Qualified in at least 1 individual event for Age Group Championships. 

  5. Has not participated in any USA Swimming Diversity Camp during the LC 2010 and/or SC 2010-2011 season. 

  6. Will be physically ready for training.

Eligible athletes should apply online by May 10, 2011. Athletes will have until May 10th to submit an application. All athletes who submit an application will be entered into a lottery drawing. The first two names selected will have the opportunity to attend the camp. If one or both of the athletes cannot attend, alternate names will be selected.  

Coaches:

This camp would greatly benefit someone who coaches a diverse cultural team. You also need to be in good standing with CT Swimming. If you would like to be considered, please email Joanne Lindberg.

PAST CAMPS
2009 Elite High Altitude Training Camp
August 16-23, 2009

Invitation List

Objective:  The objectives of this CT Camp, is to motivate, educate and train some of the very best swimmers within our state. 

The following are goals that relate to the objectives:

1. Provide an educational experience for each participating swimmer.

2. To educate participants on the history and heroes of USA Swimming.

3. Improvement of swimmer’s self-image.

4. Promote LSC unity by camp participants.

5. Retention of athletes.

6. The transfer of information back to the swimmers’ home club.

 

Site: U.S. Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs, CO 

Dates: August 16-23, 2009. Athletes will arrive on Sunday afternoon and depart on Sunday morning. 

Number of Athletes: Maximum of 40 swimmers 

Age: 13 – 19 years old at time of camp (12th grade or younger) 

Eligibility: CT selected USA Swimming athlete members  

Qualification Standards/ Selection Criteria: On April 15, 2009 the top 8 swimmers in each SENIOR SCY event from the CT FAST database (date range of: 09/01/08-04/15/09) will be selected and invited. 

Camp Schedule: The 7-day camp program will include a combination of pool training, motivational and education sessions, and team building activities. 

Sample topics for athletes: Physiological basis for post race recovery; drug and supplement education; practical psychological training skills; nutrition; race strategy and race analysis (subject to change at anytime) 

Accommodations:  The campers will be housed in dormitories at OTC.  

Meals and Snacks:  Campers will also be provided breakfast, lunch and dinner and snacks at the OTC. The cost of all meals and snacks is included in the cost of the camp. 

Cost: The total cost of the trip including airfare will be $695.   CSI will reimburse $200 in travel expenses at the completion of the attended camp.  A mandatory Non Refundable deposit of $250 will be due on Monday, May 26, 2009.  The deposit will secure the spot of the attendee until the remaining $445 balance due date Monday June 29, 2009.  If balance is not received on the balance due date they attendee will relinquish his/her spot at this camp.  No exceptions.  No Refunds. 

Camp Staff: The camp staff will be selected from accomplished Candidates from CT and include a head coach, at least 4 assistant coaches, and a manager. (Number of assistant coaches depends on the size of the Coaches to Swimmers camp ratio being 1/10)

  1. Connecticut Swimming prefers credit card payments (VISA and MC). There are no extra fees. Parents may make a single credit card payment regardless of the number of swimmers they are registering for the camp.
    1. Go to https://shop.ctswim.org  (secure) AFTER submitting online application.

                                                               i.      Select Camps and Clinics

                                                             ii.      Select Long Course Distance Camp or Short Course Distance Camp

1.      enter the number of children you are registering in the “item” box.

                                                            iii.      Click Checkout or Continue Shopping if you are registering for a second camp.

                                                           iv.      Continue Checkout (do not “register” or “sign in”)

                                                             v.     Enter billing information and click Continue

                                                           vi.      Special Instructions- you may list your swimmer(s) name.  Please make a notation if your surname is different than your child’s, or if you are paying for a friend, or if you are not the contact person for that swimmer.

                                                          vii.      Review your order and then click Continue

Enter all billing information and finish the transaction.  You will receive email notification that your order has been  “Shipped”.  This means CT Swimming has processed your transaction successfully. Please retain this email receipt.  THIS IS YOUR CONFIRMATION
