Dear Volunteers, Officials, Coaches and Swimmers,

Once again, this is a heartfelt thank-you to all of the individuals involved in making the Connecticut Senior Open, held at the University of Connecticut, a tremendous success. The time and energy you willingly gave is as always greatly appreciated. I asked and you responded in a professional, courteous, helpful and friendly manner. Job assignments had complete follow through and many took the initiative to complete the excruciating details that make a large meet like this a success. You should be very proud of yourselves as you went beyond the call of duty. I am grateful that I was lucky enough to have the pleasure of working with all of you…again!

In particular, I would like to thank the following individuals for their help and encouragement when I needed it most. Nan Cooper you ARE the backbone of CSI! Nan you are one in a million and CSI has no idea how fortunate they are to have someone as professional and knowledgeable as you behinds the scenes. We always seem to have new problems, yet somehow we always manage work through them. Thank-you for your hard work, your support of me as Meet Director, but most of all thank-you for your friendship! Pam Libertiny for being a wonderful Meet Referee, as always! It comforts me to have you on deck and although as you know that the meet takes on a life of it’s own once that first whistle is blown you are there to control and solve all of the mundane and sometimes unique problems that arise. Mark Johnson (the Computer Wizard), Dan Garaffa and Larry Frost for efficiently running the computer every session and providing a quick turn over of results. Larry (the Computer Cowboy) I owe you a few (you know what I mean) and then some for bailing me out many times during this meet! Thanks for everything!!! Love you man!! Thanks to Clark Cooper and Ken Bock for providing not only their friendship and guidance, but a shoulder as well. Linda Prus and Maggie Frost for running the office, once again, effortlessly. You always make my job far more enjoyable even during those hard to manage times. Tim Quill for his tremendous announcing abilities during the P.M. sessions. I think you should rethink your job as a coach and consider broadcasting! Thanks and appreciation goes out to Mark Hart for being a wonderful Announcer and Clerk of Course during the A.M. sessions. A very special thank-you goes to Garry Harrigan for helping us out with announcing during Saturday evening finals. I especially liked the pink, makeshift bandanna, which gave that evening’s session a special flare! Hats off to the SOCO swim parents in particular Patti McLellan for doing whatever I asked, but most especially for the countless hours spent on deck being a marshal. Many thanks to the University Aquatics parents, for a delicious hospitality room, filled with yummy goodies. Thanks to Billy Ball and the UAC team for the use of their pool, set-up and clean up and all of the other million tasks it takes to getting a pool ready for a championship meet. Mike D, for always operating the Colorado with ease and for introducing us to the best calzones I’ve ever eaten. Last but certainly not least, major props to ALL of the NES parents for the many many hours you dedicated to this meet. I cannot thank-you all enough as you not only fulfilled your own job requirement, but did other teams requirements as well. Finally, to all of the Officials who volunteered their time and are truly committed to the sport of swimming. I think you are all truly wonderful and I have the utmost respect for you all! Thank-you for your many volunteer hours spent on deck.

In closing, I would like to thank the swimmers, who make my job worthwhile. Each year I get to know more and more of you just a little better. Every one of you is a star in your own right. I commend you all on your spirit, love of the sport and talent.

Sincerely,

Mary Beth McCarthy
