Zone Team Practices: 2009 Zone Team practices and parent meetings will be the following days: Sunday March 22nd  from 9-11 am at Central CT State University and Wednesday March 25th from 6:30- 8:30 pm  at Wesleyan University. All swimmers and parents are required to make at least one practice. Please meet in the stands at both practices.

Buses:  The bus will leave Fairfield @6:45 am, Danbury 7:45 am and Wethersfield 7:45 am. This will allow the buses to meet up on time in Pattersonville ( rest stop)  per bus company.

Chaperones: Thank you to all parents who submitted applications for chaperoning the zone trip.  All chaperones have been notified.   If you have not been notified, thank you very much for offering, but at this time we are full.

CSI Zone Policy

Introduction to the Short Course Zone Team:

Swimmers coaches and parents,

Before you know it the championship season will be upon us. As zone coordinators, we would like you all to start thinking about the 2009 short course eastern zones to be held April 2-4 in Rochester New York.  If you are new to the Eastern Zone Championship, please read on.  Please note that all swimmers wishing to participate must turn in their final forms and payment at the Zone Table at Age Group Championships by Sunday March 15, 2009 at 6:00 PM.  Zone desk will be located in a office room shared with Metro Swim shop at Wesleyan.  You are highly encouraged to complete and hand in all forms earlier.

What are zones?

Zones are the highest Age group meet in the country for age group swimmers. Connecticut participates in the Eastern Zones against 11 others LSC's from northern Virginia to Maine.

How do I make the zone team?

Swimmers achieving the top 2 times from September 1st through the age group championship in each event of each age group are qualified for zones provided they have a least a AA time specified in 2009-2012 National Age Group Motivational Standard. These times must be from a sanctioned USA event. For more information on zones see the zone policy on ct swim web site.

What happens if the top swimmers decide not to go?

We continue going down the list of top swimmers until we get the fastest 2 swimmers who are eligible and want to swim in the zone meet. Please understand some swimmers age up before the zone meet and some swimmers can not make the meet. For that reason, we are asking all swimmers in the TOP 10 to check in at the zone table during age group championship. There is no pre-application required.

What if you are participating in high school swimming and not attending age group championship, but still want to go to the zone championship?

If you satisfy the eligibility requirements, you can still sign up for the CT zone team. Please arrange with coordinator ahead of the time, so all required forms are turned in prior to the deadline.

How do I get to zones and where do I stay?

For the short course zone we all travel to and from the meet as a team. This year will we travel by bus to Rochester leaving on April 1 and returning on April 5. The zone team will have 5 coaches 2 zone team coordinators and 10 to 14 parent chaperones. We will eat meals together, travel to the meet site together and cheer for our teammates all together as one team, Team Connecticut. All meals and hotel costs, team t-shirts, shorts, team suit (which swimmers must wear), team caps, and a water bottle are included in the fee. (Other fees may occur for first time zone participants).

Appeal to Parents:

Dear Parents,

Soon the championship season will be upon us. Congratulations to both parents and swimmers for a wonderful season! The culmination of the Age Group Short Course season is the Eastern Zone Championships. Swimmers who qualify, represent Connecticut Swimming in one of the most competitive swim meets of the entire Short Course season for age group swimmers. The Eastern Zone Championships will be held in Rochester, NY April 2-4, 2009. The zone team athletes travel as a team to this meet, stay in a hotel together, eat together and cheer together all as one team. This takes many volunteers to organize a zone team and the team chaperones are a vital part of the team.

In the past, we have had to shortage of parent chaperones especially in the older age group (13 to 18 year olds). We are sending out this appeal well in advance to let everyone know that the team travel portion of this team is in jeopardy if we cannot secure parent chaperones. Safety is paramount so please step up and volunteer to be a CHAPERONE. Please contact me with any questions and come see us at the ZONE TABLE at Age Group Championships.
