CONNECTICUT SWIMMING, INC. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Minutes of Meeting 02/18/97 PRESENT: Chris Pac, Bev Medlin(CAT), Ellen Johnston (WRAT), Mary Lynch, Tim Quill(CDEV), Mary Anne Condon, Bonnie Fisher (WYW), Tim Murphy (WYW), Rob Riccoban (NES) ABSENT: Athletes Reps AUDIENCE: Pam Libertiny (NCY), Al Laprino (NCY). The meeting was called to order at 8:10 p.m. at the Orange Community Center. Minutes of the January 14, 1997, meeting were not available. Pam Libertiny asked to be added to the agenda. Age Group Committee: Bev Medlin requested approval to change the order of events for LC Age Group Championships, specifically, the 400 Free Relay and 400 Medley for the 10/U and 11/12 age groups. Program Development APPROVED. Senior Committee: Ellen reported on the planning of the CT/NE Senior meet scheduled for March. She has received a request from an organization called "Bridges to Health" regarding providing a massage service gratis during the meet. Program Development okayed with the stipulation that Wesleyan approves and that Ellen check with USS regarding insurance and liability. Ellen also reiterated that bonus events will be cut if the meet is oversubscribed. Program Operations: Mary reported that LC pools are all secured and bid acceptances are going out soon to clubs. Bronze and Silver Championships appear large, even with Silvers being cut back to six event maximum per swimmer. Mary distributed a proposal regarding changes to CSI's fee structure. To be reviewed and discussed at April meeting. Technical Planning Committee: Discussion of Technical Planning's recommendations regarding changes to Championship Meet Format. To be finalized at April meeting. Coaches Representative: Tim Quill reported that Peter Malone of the KC Blazers will be speaker at the April coaches' clinic to be held at the Yale Graduate Club. Speedo is providing sponsorship. Athlete Representatives: No report. Other Business: Camps: Bev Medlin reported that notices about the Blue Ribbon Camp will be placed in both the Bronze and Silver meet programs - scheduled for 5/4 at Wesleyan. Working on holding the NAG camp jointly with Metropolitan (NY) swimming. Scheduled for 6/13-15 at Wesleyan. SC Schedule: Proposed 1997-98 SC Schedule distributed. Cannot finalize until decide championship format. Tabled until April meeting. Meet Entry Deadlines: Pam Libertiny asked for a clarification of meet entry deadlines. Can meet managers accept additional entries after the meet entry has passed? Can they accept time upgrades? Do all clubs know that they have the right to enter their swimmers at the COT even if the swimmers do not make that time? Al Laprino requested that CSI reiterate meet entry policy - that no entries will be taken after the deadline. After discussion, Mary agreed to specify in the bid acceptance packets that meet managers should observe the meet entry deadline. She will also draft language for approval at the April meeting regarding host teams entering their swimmers at the COT. Bev also reported for Ed Easley that Roxanne Smietana (Safety Chair) is having a very hard time securing safety officials for Age Group Championships. Al announced a clinic to be held at NCY on 4/25-26 that will feature Jeff Rouse, Curt Grote, BJ Bedford and others. Open to Metro, CSI and NE Swimming.
