Griffin Hospital's second annual Housy One-Miler Swim event, which is an open water swim along the banks of the Housatonic at Birchbank in Shelton, will be held Sunday, August 14. All net proceeds from this timed, noncompetitive charity swim go towards helping fight breast cancer through support of the new Hewitt Center for Breast Wellness at Griffin Hospital, which just opened in Derby in January. Register on-line at www.housyswim.kintera.org, and participants are encouraged to raise a minimum of $100. Registration is $35.

Message from USA Swimming: During the House of the Delegates meeting at convention, USA Swimming will remember those individuals within your LSC who have passed away since last year’s convention. The president of USA Swimming will recite the name of each individual and his/her involvement in swimming (athlete, coach, volunteer, etc.) and place a flower into a vase in memory of that person. To assist us with this presentation, USA Swimming needs to know the names of the deceased no later than September 9. Please email the information to me at svollmer@usaswimming.org. Include the name of the person who has passed away and whether the person was an athlete, coach, official, or administrator. You may include up to three photographs, one of which will be used during the memorial as well.

Posted is a list of "Swimmers with Qualifying Times " and a list of "Qualifying Meets " where qualifying times are pulled from. The swimmer list reflects an “age-up date” of 8/10/2011. Qualifying times are from qualifying meets only, thus they do not include times from "custom" meets. Times exceeding maximum qualifying times are not excluded on this list but will be excluded from the entry. These lists do not reflect other eligibility requirements. Swimmers may qualify at Regional, Senior, and Age Group Championships, but MUST HAVE 2 (TWO) QUALIFYING EVENTS to be eligible for CT Zone Team. Contact Tak Takabayashi with questions.

An open letter from the Zone Team Coordinators to all coaches, parents, and swimmers thinking about the Zone Team: As the championships season approaches we wish all the best of luck. We are also asking that you start thinking about representing Connecticut Swimming at the 2011 Eastern Zones Long Course Age Group Championship meet to be held at State College, PA. Zones is the pinnacle meet for the age group swimmer. Eastern Zones Long Course Age Group Championship meet is where athletes travel as a team and represent Connecticut Swimming. Please note that the query will display swimmers fastest times, BUT DOES NOT ELIMINATE TIMES FROM NON-QUALIFYING MEETS. Qualifying meets are CT/USA Sanctioned Meets and CT/USA Approved Meets. "Custom" times usually are from non-qualifying meets. Also, the query does not take other qualification and eligibility requirements into consideration.
