Long-time
volunteer, Pam Libertiny, has retired from officiating after nearly
20 years of volunteer service to her club, NCY, and to Connecticut
Swimming.
On April 30, 2008, Pam was recognized at the New Canaan YMCA awards
banquet and in her honor the annual NCY Qualifer has been named the
"Pam Libertiny Qualifier".
Pam served as a USA Swimming official for nearly 20 years and
mentored countless officials. She also served on Connecticut
Swimming's Board of Directors for many years. Read NCY's tribute

April 30, 2008
Dear Pam:
Since your decision last year to hang up your official’s whistle marked the end of a very happy era, the New Canaan Y Caimans Parents’ Association, coaching and administrative staffs have been thinking about the best way to express our gratitude and that of our predecessors for your many years of outstanding volunteer service. We have come up with a symbolic gesture that we think hits the right notes. It commemorates your connection with our meets through officiating, references your work at Connecticut Swimming to assure that a balanced schedule of meets would always be offered, and in our modest way broadcasts our appreciation to the broader swimming community which you have served so very well.
Pam, you have put in years of volunteer service for the New Canaan Y Caimans through officiating, Parents Association leadership, mentoring of other volunteers and officials, and welcoming countless families of swimmers into our programs. NCY has been proud to have you represent us on the Connecticut Swimming Board and serve as its Vice-Chair in two different roles. Your distinguished career as a Referee associated with our club ranged from dual meets to Regionals to Connecticut Senior Championships to National-level Championship Meets. For years there were few officials in the state not trained, recruited or mentored at some point by Pam Libertiny.
In recognition of all of this, a grateful New Canaan YMCA Caimans team will from this coming short course season forward name our annual age group qualifier the “Pam Libertiny Qualifier”. We will invite you to the first annual “PLQ” this coming winter for a commemorative ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Representing your countless NCY friends and admirers we remain,
Yours truly,
Craig Panzano, Executive Director, New Canaan YMCA
Jason Paige, Competitive Swimming Director and Head Coach
Brian Bodick, President, NCY Caimans Parents’ Association
Barry Silver, Board Member, NCY Caimans Parents’ Association
