2011 Short Course Zone Age Group Championship
March 31 - April 2, 2011
Webster, NY

Introduction to the Short Course Zone Team: This year’s Eastern Zone Age Group Championship meet will be held at Webster Aquatic Center, Webster NY, a beautiful aquatic facility where 2009 and 2010 SC Zone Championships were held.  If you are new to the Eastern Zone Championship, please read on!

What is Zone Championship?

Zones are the highest level Age Group meet in the country for age group swimmers. Connecticut participates in the Eastern Zones against 11 others LSC's from northern Virginia to Maine.

How do I make into the CT Zone Team?

Among applicants, swimmers with the fastest 2 times (fastest 3 times for 10/U and 11/12) achieved from September 1st through the CT Age Group Championship in each event of each age group are qualified for zones.  To be eligible, swimmer must achieve at least AA time specified in 2009-2012 National Age Group Motivational Standard for that event.  These times must be from a sanctioned USA Swimming meet. For other eligibility requirements or more information on Zone Championship, please visit the Zone Team page.

Would my time from an “approved” meet count toward the zone qualification?

No. Only times from USA Swimming “sanctioned” meets (in CT or from other LSCs), which are open to all CT teams and athletes are used to determine the fastest swimmers among the swimmers who applied.  Times from approved meets such as dual meets, YMCA, league meets, high school championships, or other “Approved” or “Observed” meets are not used for the selection because they are meets closed to some CT clubs or athletes.

What happens if the top swimmers decide not to go?

We continue going down the list of top swimmers until we get the fastest 2 swimmers (again, 3 for 10/U and 11/12) who are applying and are eligible for the Zone meet.  Please understand some swimmers age-up before the Zone meet start date and some swimmers have schedule conflict. For those reasons, we ask all interested to check the calendar ahead of time, and swimmers who have “AA” time to check in at the zone table during Age Group Championship. There is no pre-application required.

What if you are not attending CT Age Group Championship, but still want to go to the Zone Championship?

If you satisfy the qualification and eligibility requirements, you may still sign up for the CT zone team. Please arrange with a coordinator ahead of the time, so all required forms are turned in prior to the deadline.

How do I get to Zone Championship and where do I stay?

For the Short Course Zone Team we all travel to and from the meet as a team. We will travel by bus to Rochester leaving in the morning of March 30 (Wednesday) and returning on afternoon of April 3 (Sunday). The zone team will have 4 to 5 coaches, zone team coordinator(s) and 8 to 10 parent chaperones. We will eat meals together, travel to the meet site together and cheer for our teammates all together as one team, Team Connecticut. All meals and hotel costs, team t-shirts, shorts, team suit (which swimmers must wear), and team caps are included in the fee. (Other fees may occur for first time zone participants).

More information will be provided at Zone Team page, and at the zone table at Age Group Championships.

Please note that all swimmers wishing to participate must turn in their final forms and payment at the Zone Table at Age Group Championships by Sunday March 13, 2011 at 6:00 PM.  Zone desk will be located in the classroom off the pool lobby. We share the room with swim equipment shop at Wesleyan University.  You are highly encouraged to complete and hand in all forms earlier.

If you have any questions please contact one of Zone Coordinators.
