Connecticut Open Water Championship
June 20, 2009

By Jen Lyman

The Madison Mile, now in its 10th year, is a one-mile swim competition along the beautiful Madison shore. This year’s event will take place at the Madison Surf Club on Saturday June 20th at 9:00am. This event is also known as the CT Open Water Championship. The race was founded by the late Dave Parcells, longtime Madison resident, gifted athlete, and champion for the sport of open water swimming. Parcells died in 2007 while competing in the Tampa Bay Marathon Swim. In 2002, he became the oldest person and fourth American to complete a double-cross of the English Channel. In his lifetime, he crossed the 21-mile channel four times. The race staff continue this event in his spirit and dedicate the Madison Mile to his memory.
