Wilton Y Wahoos Win 2005 YMCA Titles

The Wilton Y Wahoos won the 2005 Short Course YMCA National Men's and Combined Team Titles the week of April 5-8 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The Wahoos sent 41 athletes to the meet in Florida. The meet had 208 teams consisting of 1,458 swimmers from across the country.
The last men's title the Wahoos won for the short course season was in 1984. The last combined title for short course was in 1989. The two 2005 titles now bring the total of National Championships to a total of 23 for the Wahoos. The first was in 1982. The Wahoos are the only team in the country to have won National YMCA titles in three different decades.
Two of the men's relays set YMCA National Records. Andrew Trepp, Jeffrey Sudbury, Rob Hannigan and Phil Baity combined for the 200 free relay which went 1:22.64 and the 400 Free Relay which went 3:03.14. Both relays records were set in 1988. Most recently the Wahoos have won the Men's and Combined Team Titles the last two summer during the long course season. Jeffrey Sudbury also won the 100 Breaststoke and Andrew Trepp won the 200 Freestyle.
