Swim Stars

It is early in the season, but you would never know that by the outstanding performances of Connecticut athletes at the big meets this past weekend. Three CSI athletes swam 2004 Olympic Trials qualifying times at the U.S. Open, most remarkably 14 year old Daniel Madwed (SHKS).  Daniel swam a 2:03.10 in the 200M Butterfly finishing 6th.  Ben Michaelson (SNCO) finished 2nd in the 100M Butterfly (53.62) and Dustin Rogers (UCON) finished 7th (55.08) in the same event. This brings the number of CSI Olympic Trialists to five: Daniel Madwed, Ben Michaelson, Tammie Repass, Geoff Rathgeber and Dustin Rogers. Former CSI athletes, Kelly Harrigan and Dan Shevchik are also qualifiers.

Another young athlete, Matthew Donch (PSDY), struck gold at the 2003 Speedo Capital Classic, in Raleigh, NC.  Fifteen year old, Matthew, qualified for USA Swimming Nationals in the 100Y Butterfly (50.25).  Other national qualifiers at the U.S. Open were Daniel Madwed (SHKS), Ben Michaelson (SNCO), Cassie Novak (UCON) and Tammie Repass (SNCO).
