Seven New Events for 12 & Unders
At the recommendation of the Age Group Committee, Connecticut Swimming has added seven events to the 11/12 and 10/U age groups for the 2001-2002 season. The 10/U events will now include the 500Y Freestyle and the 11/12 events will include the 200Y Backstroke, 200Y Butterfly, 200Y Breastroke, 400Y IM , 1000Y Freestyle and 1650 Y Freestyle. These new events are in addition to the 10/U and 11/12 events currently offered at CSI Championship meets and qualifiers. USA Swimming declared these events "official" at the 1999 USAS Convention and immediately began keeping National Age Group Records and National Top 16 times.
These events are currently offered at CSI sanctioned qualifiers and in some invitational meets posted on the 2001-2002 short course CSI meet schedule. (Please refer to individual Meet Announcements.). CSI Regional Championships* will offer these events (Time Standards will be finalized at the December Program Development meeting.) and there is a possibility that these events will also be offered at the CSI Senior Invitational. These events will not be offered at the short course All-Star Zone meet in April 2002.
Larry Frost, National Top 16 and CSI Record Tabulator, has compiled CSI Resident and CT Records for these new events. These records begin with the 1999-2000 short course season. Please contact Larry with any questions or challenges to these records. Challenges must include proper documentation of the record time. National Top 16 times have been submitted each season for the new events.

11/12 800M Freestyle- 9:17.85
11/12 1000Y Freestyle- 10:16.62
11/12 1500M Freestyle- 17:33.68
11/12 1650Y Freestyle- 17:03.08

* An event cannot be swum for the first time at Regional Championships-- 12/U must have swum a new event prior to entering Regional Championships.
