The only other American swimmer to pull off a win Saturday night was Daniel Madwed, 15, of the Sharks Swim Team in Connecticut. Madwed won the men’s 200m butterfly with a time of 2:01.03 for the first U.S. Open title of his career.

He finished sixth last year in the same event. Madwed, a member of the National Junior Team, is gearing up for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, to be held in January in Hawaii.

“I didn’t think I was going to do it, so it’s really a big surprise for me,” Madwed said. “This week’s been going so well. I’m not shaved and tapered for this meet, and I did my best time by a full second. I don’t usually do that unless I’m shaved and tapered.

“The competition was pretty tough tonight, so I didn’t expect to win. I was just feeling good at the 100 mark, and that was my chance to take it. I just sucked it up and pushed harder.”

Also competing in the US Open was UCON (University of Connecticut).  Nicolas Acquarito, Robert Folan, Tristan Jones, Bill Monaghan, Connor Murphy, Cassie Novak and Ryan Smith  were all meet finalists.

Congratulations!
