Find Athletes Swims and Times
Dale Maine, developer
In December of 2003, Connecticut Swimming (CSI) launched Connecticut FAST. FAST is a .Net application over a SQL Server database hosting all CT Swimming meet results for the last 11 years, as well as team, swimmer, official, and coach information. Currently there are 1,789 meets in the database with over 2.3 million individual results. Coaches, swimmers, and their parents can look up a their best times, track their progress for each event, and look up records. Championship meets definitions are imported and the teams can not only see who qualifies to swim what events, but the system automates the entry process. The process of transferring a swimmer's history from team to team is automated by allowing the new team to pull an export of a swimmer's history to load into team management software. Clubs may archive files, submit meet bids, enter championship meets, export/import swimmer history. There are 35 submittals to manage banquet reservations, transfers, applications, etc. returning over 12,000 forms to date. Queries include: Record Times, Best Times, Top Times, Meets Entered, Championship Qualification, Teams, Officials, Coach Expiration, Swimmer Registration, and Meet Membership Verification. Barry Silver is credited for the name "Connecticut FAST" (Find Athletes, Swims and Times).

Added preferred name to non-athletes table and import file processing;
modified officials edit page and database query page to show officials'
preferred name; also modified edit page to search only active officials (and
added a checkbox in case there is a need to search inactive officials); created
import process for USA certification file. Added official certification info to
officials queries; modified coaches list on teams to use preferred name, also on
coach expiration report; fixed problem with new certification import.
1/25/2011
Modified championship entry report by name to sort on and display sessions.
Added sessions to report by age group; created new report to show team entry in
session and event order.
01.06.11
Created session table and modified meet configuration page to display meet
sessions and manage individual entry limits per session; modify import to handle
prelim/finals meets where events belong to multiple sessions. Created database fields for club entry chair and work contacts.
08.04.10
Swimmer name record can be hidden or made anonymous. Times associated with a
particular swimmer will display with a number rather than a name. Created EV3 class to import Hytek meet event file format.
02.04.10
Created
export module for Online Entries. Report prints separate page for each club.
11.23.09
Set up officials.ctswim.org site
and officials FTP ID
02.12.09
Created championship meet
qualifiers report.
02.03.09
Launched online meet bids where meet hosts create meet bids on a virtual
calendar. Bids are then exported (csv) for Program Operations review.
01.10.09
Changed Scholar/Open-Water flag maintenance to exclude expired swimmers from
all lists; add option to reset flags for expired swimmers.
11.10.08
FAST
now has SSL certification and data transfers will be 128-bit encrypted.
Space has been allotted on the CSI server for each club to store data in a quick, convenient way and at no cost. Clubs may add or delete files as needed.
Clubs may now export swimmer history back to 1999. Clubs will have access to individual swimmers or all swimmers that are currently registered (active) and affiliated with their club. An athlete’s transfer from the old club must be complete before that athlete’s history will be available to the new club for export.
09.03.08
Club backup archive and swimmer history export were deployed.
User's Manual
02.18.08
Club entry builds now contain the option to "unselect" all events in addition
to selecting all events.
07.22.07
Launched Late Qualifier Entries. This allows for club entry chairs to select
late qualifying swims, within certain date parameters, and enter them into
championship meets. Relays and relay-only swimmers may also be selected. A
separate sd3 entry file is downloaded containing new swims only.
12.01.06
Virtual calendar launched.
New Records Search feature added to administrative page (privileged). This allows the Administrator and NTV Officer to search for record-breaking swims.
11.07.06
*.hyv to *.mt6 conversion software added to administrative page (privileged).
08.07.08
Best Times query now sorts swimmer's best times from most recent to oldest
and splits are optional. Swimmers times are now graphed (line graph shows
swimmer's times versus date range).
Privileged export report added to Administrative page which allows Times Standards Chair to integrate results of any USA sanctioned/approved/observed meet in FAST. This will be used primarily to establish minimum time standards for Regional Championships.
FAST Online Entries now contain an optional club entry report that sorts and prints by gender and age group.
07.17.06
Set up an alternate application folder on the server for testing purposes.
Private side only.
Added option to privileged Administrative page to delete en masse previous year's open water top 16 and scholar athletes.
07.13.06
A table of UN clubs corresponding with each CSI club has been created and a
sd3 export entry file created to export UN athletes to the associated UN club.
This allows unattached athletes to upload into Hytek properly for running a
meet. End users must still manually move all unattached athletes to CT-UN at the
conclusion of the meet so that the meet result export file contains accurate USA
Swimming clubs.
03.16.06
Custom times can now be uploaded via *.sd3 files. Only times with an
associated USA ID will upload.
03.24.06
Online Entries is launched.
This allows club entry chairs to enter CSI championship meets online.
05.16.05
Microsoft.Net mailer has been completed. This mail utility allows the
database administrator to send email to individuals, clubs and select groups
(officials by certification level, clubs contacts, active coaches and coaches
with expired credentials) from FAST. The email addresses are addresses
associated with individual and club registrations in the USA Swimming national
database, SWIMS.
05.07.05
UN club displays in all queries and is not tied to registration year of the
club.
04.00.05
Option added to allow all swims or only finals swims to upload into FAST.
04.11.05
In compliance with USA Swimming's
Privacy Policy, all USA-ID numbers have been removed from public pages.
The Swimmer- Registration Check query is now password protected.
12.08.04
Swimmer- Expiration Check: Run a query to show currently registered swimmers
by club. The registration expiration date is listed for each athlete.
Dates within 60 days of expiring are indicated in yellow.. Red indicates
that registration has expired. If the registration is 60 days past
expiration, the swimmer will not be listed. Club registrars and meet entry
chairs should use this list to confirm registrations.
06.15.04
Swimmer- Meets Entered: Run a query to show meets, by date range, in
which a swimmer has competed. This will assist athletes, parents and
division chairs in determining eligibility for CSI programs that require
swimmers' participation in a certain number of meets. The query will
return meets for which a swimmer swam individual events.
01.28.04
Phase Five: Championship meet qualifiers can now be run by Swimmer or by
Team. Run this query anytime and get a list of athletes from your team
that have qualified for the meet you select. This will aid coaches in
determining athletes that have qualified for championship meets and the events
they qualified for, as well as what events an athlete may still need to swim
before championships. Additionally, this takes the guess work out of Regional
Championships with its complicated time standards and eligibility criteria.
Please note that the championship birthday rule is a future enhancement and that
times in FAST are only from uploaded meets. Use the Meet List query to see
what meets are included. Times from any meet attested by a referee may be used
to enter CSI championship meets as long as proof of time is provided with the
entry or sent in advance to the office. Swimmers must also meet other
eligibility requirements as listed in the meet announcements.
Team- Championship Qualification: Select the championship meet (Age Groups, 8&U, Regionals, Seniors or Sectionals) and club name. The return will list swimmers that have met the qualifying time standards, the swimmer's age at the meet, qualifying times and the date a qualifying time was achieved. Click on Details under swimmer's name to see detailed information about the swimmer as described below.
Swimmer- Championship Qualification: Select the championship meet (Age Groups, 8&U, Regionals, Seniors or Sectionals) and swimmer's name. The query will return a list of all the meet events, the qualifying events, qualifying times and the date a qualifying time was achieved. The header contains the name of the meet, the qualification period and the age of the swimmer on the first day of the meet. Clicking on Details for each event will list the time standards in all 3 courses (SCY, SCM and LCM) for that event as well as a the qualifying times and a descriptive message such as:
When viewing the individual qualifying details for a particular event, there are links to bring up the event history corresponding to any of the best times.
01.15.04
Phase Four: Meet Verification query is complete. This allows meet
sponsors to upload a sd3 membership file and run it against registered CSI
swimmers. It will return a list, by club, of unregistered swimmers,
swimmers with incorrect USA-ID numbers, out of state athletes, missing LSCs and
unregistered clubs. Also, included are statistics for each participating
club: number of swimmers, number of relays, number of unregistered swimmers and
number of invalid codes (USA-ID).
01.02.04
Phase Three: The Best Times history load is now complete. Because
registration data has not been consistent over the past years, there are
duplicate athletes.
"Bad" (incorrect) splits and zero times have been eliminated. Please notify Nan Cooper if any bad splits were missed.
12.09.03
Phase Two is now posted. This includes queries for
Event Top Times: This query returns the top 25 times for each age group and event. Select an age group and the page will refresh with the events for that age group. The return shows rank, time, club, date of swim, age of swimmer and name of swimmer. The swimmer name is linked to that swimmer's best times and meet/event history. Italicized with question marks indicate an incorrect USA-ID number. Please contact the club entry chair.
List Swim Meets: This query returns a list of meets that have been imported in the FAST database.
12.03.03
Phase One is now posted. This includes queries for:
Coach Credentials: This query returns coaches with registration or credentials that will or have expired. It does not include coaches in good standing. Yellow indicates coach registration or credentials will expire in the next 60 days. Red indicates that a coach registration or credentials have expired. If a registration/credential expired more than 60 days ago you will not appear on the list.
Officials: Queries by level of certification or by club.
Teams: Queries by name or location.
