Zone Team Zips 'n Zooms at the 2004 SC All-Star Meet
-Submitted by Nanci Liscinsky, Zone Coordinator
67 athletes, 5 coaches, 9 chaperones and 2 coordinators traveled to Virginia to compete against the fastest swimmers from 9 other LSC's at the Eastern Zone All Star meet.
Our swimmers came home with 123 best times out of 252 swims along with an impressive 65 medals. This is no easy feat considering this is the fastest age group meet on the east coast not to mention a grueling 4 day schedule.
Our 10/Unders were the hit of the meet. Parading around in animal hats with Coach Kaeley as their leader they looked like little ducklings following their mom. But it was their performance in the pool, 36 of 48 best times and 24 medals including 6 first place finishes, which drew rave reviews from our meet hosts.
The 11/12 swimmers collected an incredible 26 medals, including a 2nd in the girls 400 free relay. Our 13/Overs had one of the best meets with 44 best times and 15 medals. It was obvious everyone was trying their hardest and put forward their best effort. There were comments on how surprisingly well CT was swimming but we weren't surprised.
The most important lessons of the trip were fostered by the great group of coaches. Head coach Brooks Ensor along with Dan Zeek, Gary Harrigan, Christine Pelham and Kaeley Steinnagel did a terrific job creating an atmosphere of fun along with excellence. They instilled a strong sense of team spirit into these individual swimmers that came from different teams all over CT. The swimmers had fun with and supported new teammates as if they had been together for years.
I can't thank our wonderful group of chaperones enough. They were absolutely the best group of parents we could have hoped for. Your swimmers were in great hands! I heard nothing but nice comments about the CT team. Thanks again to Chris Hug, Lorraine Duryea, Lauri Harder, Bruce Husta, Howard Naumann, Cindy Fortner, Joanne McKeown, Tammi Kim-E and Barbara Wiederecht.
The biggest thanks goes to Debbie Barriss this entire trip wouldn't have happened if she hadn't come forward months ago to start planning and organizing a mountain of details a trip this size entails.

Congratulations to
