A letter from Hayley Wolfgruber:
We are beginning to approach our championship season and, consequently, my final short course season in Connecticut Swimming. (Tear, tear.) However, aside from this sad note, this will result in an opening for the Junior Athlete Representative on the Connecticut Swimming board. I know that for the year that I ran, and also this past year, very few swimmers have been notified of this great opportunity. Thus, I am trying my hardest to increase knowledge of this position to the best of my abilities. For the past two years, I have thoroughly enjoyed my terms on the board. My eyes have been opened to all the behind-the-scenes decisions and work that must be done that very few swimmers know about. I have also had the amazing chance to attend the U.S.A. National Convention for swimming. Here, I attended seminars concerning U.S.A. swimming, joined fellow athletes in multiple athlete meetings, and even had a voice at a nation-wide committee meeting where we voted on everything from a dues increase to providing more money to support swimming media. A very cool experience while, might I add, I was able to meet many world-renowned athletes and make many new friends. It was a fantastic, not to mention fun experience.
I am passing along these stories in hopes that more interest will be sparked in our swimming community. This is a wonderful opportunity that very few swimmers know about. Hence, I beg you coaches – please read this letter to any of your sophomore swimmers. As I may have mentioned, the opening is for a Junior Athlete Representative (i.e. a Junior in High School 2003-2004) who would work alongside our current Junior Athlete Representative, Haley Ottenbreit, who will become the Senior Rep next year. Swimmers – if this sounds like fun (which it is, I promise!) to you, please email me at Halebopp03@aol.com. We are hoping to run elections at the CT Senior Championships this March, and it is not a problem at all if you are not planning to attend the meet. As long as you are a junior, you are eligible. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to read this and please consider taking the position. Words cannot express the fun that awaits you!
