The 2002 Short Course Senior Open ended this past weekend with fifty-seven of the 350 athletes qualifying for the Speedo Champions Series. Competing in this meet for the first time was Olympian George Gleason, who represented the Virgin Islands at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia. George is a 2001 Yale University graduate and is currently training with OMNI. A seasoned competitor, George has competed in the 1999 Pan American Games, 2001 World Championships and 2001 NCAA Championships where he was named All American- Honorable Mention for his 11th place finish in the 200 Y Backstroke with a 1:44.73. George holds four Yale University records and added a CT record to his collection in the 200 Y Backstroke at the Senior Open. Not only a fine competitor, George has achieved academic honors at Yale as well and was awarded Academic All Ivy for 2001.
