Fast Times At:
Phillips 66 Nationals
Three top Connecticut athletes competed in the Phillips 66 National Championships held March 19-23, 2002 at the University of Minnesota. Ben Michaelson, SCSU, finished 5th in the Mens 100M butterfly with a 54.83 and 20th in the 200 IM, after taking four titles at the NCAA II Championships one week earlier. Kelly Harrigan, CAT, swam four events and finished 11th in 200M backstroke preliminaries qualifying her for the B Finals. Kelly finished 12th in finals with a 2:19.00. First time national qualifier, Tory Thelin, PSDY, swam the 100M butterfly and the 50M freestyle in a 28.50, a personal best. Kudos to our National Championship qualifiers!
Speedo Champions Series
Speedo Champions Series Sectionals (Region One) set the stage for many Connecticut athlete's championship season. Held March 8-11, 2002 at the Nassau Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY, it was the first meet of the 2002 short course championship season. Over thirty CSI athletes competed and twenty qualified for finals. Kristen Frost (CAT) finished 19th overall for women, Geoff Rathbeger (SOCO) finished 8th overall for men and University Aquatic Club (UAC) finished 21st in the overall team ranking.
