USA Swimming's fastest championship meet was
held August 14-18th in Fresno, California. This elite event and the World
University Games were the selection meets for the Goodwill Games which
began August 29th in Brisbane, Australia. Four top Connecticut
athletes made the trip to Fresno: Kelly Harrigan (CAT), Katie McWilliams (AJSC),
Ben Michaelson (SOCO) and Tammie Repass (UAC). Also competing were
former CSI athletes Dan Shevick (WYW) and John Waters (GYWD).
Ben Michaelson (SOCO) finished 7th in the
men's 100M butterfly and broke his own CSI Resident Record clocking a
54.29. Kelly Harrigan (CAT) and Tammie Repass (UAC) also qualified
for finals and both finished 20th in their respective events.
Harrigan swam a 2:18.78 in the 200M backstroke and Repass swam a 2:16.91
in the 200M butterfly. Both competitors achieved personal bests.
Katie McWilliams finished 19th in the 1500M freestyle with a 17:00.87 and
22nd in the 800M freestyle with a personal best of 8:55.13.
Outdoor Life Network (OLN) will be showing
taped coverage of this event on September 9th and 11th at 1:00pm EST and
on October 7th at 4:00pm EST.

Speedo Champions Series
The second Speedo Champions Series meet for the Eastern Zone, Region I was held July 26-29, 2001 in Buffalo, NY. This was a championship meet for many of Connecticut's senior swimmers. Special congratulations to Men's High Point recipient Michael McLean (OMNI)! Connecticut teams fared well with the following athletes competing in finals:

Three CSI Resident Records fell at this meet. David Guernsey (CAT) broke the 13/14 Boys 50M Free swimming a 25.23 and Michael McLean (OMNI) broke the 17/18 Boys 400M Free swimming a 4:02.92 and the 800M Free swimming a 8:24.63. Correction: Geoff Rathgeber (SOCO) broke the 15/16 Boys 200M IM record swimming a 2:09.41. This brings the total number of CSI Resident records broken to four.
