Nearly 700 athletes between the ages of eight and eighteen, representing forty-two teams  from around the state, gathered at Wesleyan University this weekend for the climax  of the competitive age group swimming season, the 2000 Connecticut Swimming Long Course Age Group Championships.  And 130 events and over 3600 swims later, there is a small group who have proven themselves to be "Connecticut's Fastest" - and many hundreds who competed and swam faster than they had ever swum before.  

Achieving Junior Championship qualifying times were Jamie Crowley (CAT) in the 50 free (27.67) and Steve Marcucio (AJSC) in the 200 breast (2:28.99).  Junior Championships began August 1st at Miami of Ohio, Oxford, OH.

Kristen Frost (CAT) CT and Resident record 11/12 200 IM (2:28.41), and Resident record 11/12 50 free (28.00). Cougar Aquatic Team (Jaime Crowley, Carolynn Navarro, Kate Stevens and Jessica Brookman) CT record  15/16 200 Free Relay (1:56.22). 

Achieving National Top 16 consideration times were:
Kristen Frost (CAT) 11/12 Girls 200 IM (2:28.41) and 50 free (28.00), Ruben Gaztambide (UAC) 13/14 Boys 50 free (25.70), Keenan Kos (WRAT) 11/12 Girls 50 fly (31.07), Aidan McKinlay (CDEV) 11/12 Girls 50 fly (30.98) and 100 fly (1:15.25), Matthew McLean (WCA) 10/U Boys 50 fly (33.05), 100 free (1:07.71) and 100 fly (1:15.25), Whitney McLellan (SOCO) 11/12 Girls 100 breast (1:19.57), Denise McWhirter (CAT) 11/12 Girls 200 free (2:13.52) and the Cougar Aquatic Team (CAT) 15-16 Girls 200 medley relay (Jaime Crowley, Jessica Brookman, Carolynn Navarro, Kate Stevens) with a 2:11.52 and the 15/16 200 free relay (Jaime Crowley, Carolynn Navarro, Kate Stevens, Jessica Brookman) with a 1:56.22.

By popular vote, Ed Steinnagel (LEHY) was proclaimed Age Group Coach of the Year.  Congratulations to Ed!
