2002 YWCA Nationals

The Greenwich YWCA Dolphins Swim Team was the lone Connecticut YWCA at the 29th
annual YWCA Jr-Sr Swimming Championships held at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic
Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Dolphins, with 1257-pts, took
third in the team race just 4.5 points behind the Snowfox (SD) YWCA (1262.5-pts)
and the 12 time champions, White Plains YWCA Middies Swim Team (NY &
3792-pts). There were 24 teams at the meet from as far west as SD, North to

The unique feature of the meet is Junior Competition (13-and-under) an Senior
Competition (14-and-over) in the 60-event, 3.5 day program.
Individually Kelly Hannigan, 17, won her third consecutive senior group
high point award winning the 200-IM, 400-IM and 500-Free and placing second in
the 100-Brst and 200-Back. Tom Payton, 16, was the individual boys high
point runner up, winning the 50-Free, 100-Brst, 200-IM and taking second in the
200-Brst and 100-Free.
Other individual winners included Liz Kruger, 17, and Spiros Mosiades, 13,
both taking their groups 50-yard free races for their first National titles.
Other Dolphins swimmers in the individual top 16 included: Ryan Anderson, Katie
Brandstetter, Andrew Cosentino, Joe Cosentino, Meredith Graves, Rob Hannigan,
Sam Kelly, Peter Lorenz, Paige Lorenz, Alex Lyddane, Gabi Musayev, Kelcy Poulson,
Julie Ramaley, Calder Sokolow, Megan Tincher, Matteo Tuniloi, Anne Waters and
Casey Wilkinson.
2001 YWCA Nationals

Hi! we're back from a great YWCA Jr-Sr Championships of the USA meet in
Charlotte, North Carolina. The meet went great with the team taking second
overall (White Plains YWCA won) out of 22 teams. Both the girls and boys took
second too, with the Sr. Boys winning that division outright for the second year
in a row. Individually the meet was highlighted by the high point
performances of Kelly Hannigan, 16, and Yuta Shimogawara, 12. Kelly won all five
of her events 100-Brst (1:04.64); 100-Fly (57.15); 200-IM (2:05.34); 400-IM
(4:25.23); 200-Fly (2:05.58). The Brst, Fly and both IM's place Kelly in the Top
16 Nationally. Kelly also led off the 200-Free and 400-Free relays with
respective career best legs of 24.38 and 52.39. Yuta won the 100-Brst
(1:07.03); 200-IM (2:07.25), 100-IM (59.37) and was second in the 100-Fly
(57.88) and fourth in the 100-Free (52.74). All five of Yuta's times are
National Top 16 times. Other individual winners included Brian Bailey, 17,
winning the 100-Fly (54.39); Jamey Waters, 22, won the 50-Free, 100-Free, 200-IM
with respective times of 20.90; 45.93 and 1:55.70.
There were dozens and dozens of season and lifetime best Dolphin performances;
but the highlight for the team was the meets last two races,
which the Dolphins have now won for two consecutive years. The Sr. Girls
200-Free Relay of Kelly Hannigan, Liz Kruger, Katie Brandstetter and Anne Waters
(24.38 - 24.40 - 24.16 -24.93) posted a Top 16 National Time at 1:38.02 (for the
15-16 age group) , edging WPYWCA by .09
The boys version saw Brian Bailey, Tom Payton, Joe Cosentino and Jamey Waters
(22.6 - 22.2 - 22.6 - 20.3) set a meet record winning at 1:26.65.

Swimmers Dominate 2000 YWCA Nationals
Greenwich YWCA Dolphins Swim Team traveled to Charlotte, NC for the YWCA Nationals April 6-9, 2000. GWYD boys won the team title led by James Lawler, 17. James took eight gold medals and men's high point. GWYD girls took second overall with Kelly Hannigan, 15, also winning eight gold medals and high point honors in eight races. The Dolphins took second overall in the meet behind the White Plains YWCA Middies (NY). Other Dolphin Gold medallists included: Field Garthwaite in the Jr. 100 back, Jessica Knapp in the Sr. 200, 500 and 1000 free and Tatsuya Shimagawara in the Sr. 100 and 200 fly.
